Getting Started
- Launch Amazon Workspaces from your desktop.
- Sign in to the SkyKick Portal using the partner-specific login credentials.
- Launch ScreenConnect.
- Invite the POC to join the session and share your Amazon Workspaces screen. This is so that the POC can enter their credentials in the SMB Planner.
- From Skykick Home page, click the Create New button > SMB Migration. Alternatively, click Migrations > +SMB Project from the left sidebar. This begins the SMB Migration Planner.
- In the Start page, enter the email address of any user on the primary business domain. For the best mailbox discovery results, use an active email mailbox such as the POC, admin, or IT administrator.
- Click the Next Step button.
Migration Source Page
In the Migration Source page, enter the customer's source environment.
- For Customer Point of Contact: Enter the POC’s contact information.
- For Source Email System: Ask the POC to enter the email address and password for any active user on the mail system (for example, you can use the POC’s email address and password here).
- Click the Verify button. The Migration Planner will automatically verify the source server connectivity and then discover the email infrastructure.
- Click the Show Settings button to see more details.
- For Email System and Protocol: You can leave these blank most of the time if you wish to have SkyKick automation attempt to discover them or you can fill them out if you have all info on hand. The Email System and mail Protocol can be specified in the Migration Planner to ensure the SkyKick platform’s connectivity to the source mail server. Typically, these fields only need to be populated if the URI is unknown. Using the Email System and Protocol fields to specify server information will allow the SkyKick platform to auto-format a webmail URL to a URI fit for migrating data.
- For Username: Enter the username for the email address above. This should be the value used to log into the webmail account (e.g. Domain/username, username, etc.).
- For URI: The URI is the mail protocol (IMAP, POP3, Exchange) webserver address. (e.g. the URI for Office 365 is https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx).
NOTE: The URI must be publicly accessible. If it is “hidden” or otherwise inaccessible from the internet, SkyKick technology has no way to connect to the source server. Enter the webmail URL into the URI field and the SkyKick platform will append the appropriate protocol information to it. This requires the Email System and Protocol sections to be populated with server information.
- Once the verification is completed, click the Next Step button.
Office 365 Page
On the Office 365 page, provide a pre-existing destination Microsoft 365 tenant.
- For Have you already created a Microsoft Office 365 account? Select Yes since the POC would have purchased the Microsoft 365 tenant from the Marketplace provided (e.g. Comcast, CinBell, etc.).
- Ask the POC to enter their Global Admin Username and Password for the Microsoft 365 account.
- Click the Next Step button. The following messages will appear. The “Discovering mailboxes” step takes a few minutes to complete.
Review Accounts Page
On the Review Accounts page, this is where you and the POC will review the information discovered by SkyKick and update the migration accordingly:
- If you need to configure Resource Room or Resource Equipment mailboxes, click the Switch to Advanced View button.
- Add/edit aliases.
- Add or delete mailboxes.
- Ensure that you have sufficient number of Microsoft 365 licenses and the correct license type is selected.
- Add public folders.
- Add distribution groups.
- Verify the domain(s).
- Select the Recommended Cutover Date. This is the day and time the mail flow will switch to Microsoft 365 and the end users will begin using Microsoft 365.
- Click the Next Step button.
Settings Page
On the Settings page, this is where you configure how SkyKick will access the source mailboxes and deploy the SkyKick Outlook Assistant (SKOA).
- For Source Mailboxes: Select the Access individually with End-User Credentials radio button.
- For Outlook Assistant: Select the Users will download the Outlook Assistant via the Password Reception Page radio button.
- For End User Credentials: Select the Users will submit them, via the Password Reception Page radio button.
- For Office 365 Credentials: Check the Set Office 365 credentials using SkyKick Application box.
- For Communication:
- Check with the POC if each end user will submit their email credentials through a Password Reception page (which is the default option) or if the POC will gather their end users’ email credentials
- If you selected the Each End User radio button above, then check the Send status and reminder emails to each End User box.
- Select the correct Language. If you’re working a French-speaking POC, this is where you must set the language to French.
- Click the Next Step button.
DNS Page
On the DNS page, this is where you configure the process of migration email domain(s) to Microsoft 365.
- For DNS Options, select Partially Automated (which is the recommended option).
- For security reasons, do not select Fully Automated because this requires the POC to provide you their domain registrar credentials.
- If the POC wants to update their DNS entries themselves, you can select the Manual option. Note that you will receive email instructions from Skykick to update the nameservers 48 hours before the cutover date. This option requires more effort and coordination since you will need to guide the POC to update the DNS entries on their domain registrar.
- Check the I understand that I must change the Name Servers manually. box.
NOTE: You will receive email instructions from SkyKick to update the nameservers 48 hours before the cutover date, which you must coordinate with the POC to guide them to make the change in their domain registrar. - Click the Next Step button.
Final Review Page
In the Final Review page, this is where you will review or edit the information and selections made in the overall Migration Planner.
- For Configuration: Select Standard Settings.
- For Transport Rules and Connectors: Select The Migration Application will automatically create Exchange Transport Rules and Connectors.
- Transport Rules and Connectors are required when some users (even users that are unrelated to the migration) have active mailboxes in the destination M365 tenant, and they are sending and receiving email from these mailboxes.
- During the migration process before cutover, Transport Rules and Connectors ensure that emails originating from or passed through M365 are routed correctly back to the source environment.
NOTE: The mere presence of mailboxes in M365 is not the same as active mailboxes. If the mailboxes in M365 are not in use, you will not need to create Transport Rules and Connectors. - If there are mailboxes in M365 that are currently sending and receiving emails, check the box. This will cause the radio button below for I will configure Exchange Transport Rules and Connectors manually to be automatically selected.
- If there are mailboxes in M365, but they are not active, leave the box unchecked, and select The Migration Application will automatically create Exchange Transport Rules and Connectors.
- For Server Sync Throttling: For a migration of more than 50 mailboxes, configure the Custom Throttle(s).
- Throttle Control allows you to specify the days and times when Migration Sync moves mailbox content and allows you to set the number of mailboxes simultaneously syncing (concurrency).
- For Select Payment Method: Select AppDirect Canada.
- Check the Privacy Policy box.
- Click the Save for later button if there are missing information or click the Place Order button when all information has been confirmed to be accurate with the POC.
Migration Dashboard
Once the migration project is placed, you can view its progress from the Migration Dashboard.
As soon as you place the order, SkyKick automation will begin the migration process. This includes sending out communications to end users based on the schedule you selected and creating a M365 admin account that you can use to access the customer’s M365 destination environment.
- Click on the migrations in progress.
- Select your migration project.
- Click through the Settings tab to see your migration project configuration.
